I want to help someone else
Are you caring for someone with a mental health problem or feeling concerned about a family member?
How to be supportive
It can be worrying if someone you know is mentally unwell and you may be unsure what to do. The first thing is to talk to them, ask them what is troubling them and if you can help. Listen and respect their feelings.
Perhaps you can accompany them to the GP or encourage them to talk to a family member.
If the problem is serious, encourage them to get help. You or they should contact the GP or, if they're at immediate risk of harm, emergency services.
Carers support
Whether you are caring for an older person with dementia or are the parent of a young person struggling with anxiety, you may want advice and support.
We offer friendly relaxed group and social activities, tips on coping and the opportunity to get peer support by sharing your caring experiences with others.
Carers Support West Sussex offers more targeted services and information for those with caring responsibilities.
If you are a GP, or other Pathfinder West Sussex professional wishing to enquire about support for someone, please email us at helppoint@westsussexmind.org.
You can also email us if you are concerned about a family member. We aim to get back to you within six working days.
In all cases, please do not supply the person's name or personal details.
If the person is in crisis, click on our green Urgent support pop-up on any page for where to get help.
