Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano in Tanzania and is the highest mountain in Africa. It is the highest single free-standing mountain in the world, at 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level.
West Sussex Mind is running a challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro from 1st January to 28th February 2023. You can walk, jog or run the 78.9km (49 mile) distance in this virtual fitness challenge, on your own or as part of a team. We'll support you all the way and you'll be able to see your progress on your own virtual map.
Register now and help us support people struggling with their mental health. We're seeing increasing numbers seeking help with their mental health, especially in this cost of living crisis, so there's never been a better time to support us if you can.
Joining the Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge
Simply click here and pay your £10 entry fee. The target is to walk or run the 78.9km and raise £50 but if you'd like to raise more, you can change your target when you set up your fundraising page here.
Recording your distances
Each time you complete a distance-based exercise activity such as running or walking, you will advance along the map of Mount Kilimanjaro. Even your daily commute, taking the kids to school or walking your dog will count towards this.
The easiest way to track your progress is to sync with your Strava account, which you'll have the option to do when you sign up. Once you've completed this step, you need to record your activities throughout January and February, and they will automatically be added to your personal fundraising page. If you aren't a Strava user, or you forget to log an activity, you can simply click the 'Add an activity' button below your distance target on your page and enter the details manually.
Once you've registered, you'll be sent an email with the link to your own personal fundraising page. You can send that link out to friends and family, and you can also share your page or activities directly to social media.
Joining or creating a team
You can join up with friends, family or colleagues to see how much you can raise together or compete against other teams to see who can raise the most! When you register, you'll have the option to create a team, or find one that's already up and running, and you can join it. You can also do this later if you prefer. Once you've set up your team, you can invite others to join you there and then by adding their emails. Walk or run throughout January and February and you'll be able to see how much you've raised collectively as a team.
