The power of movement. It gets your heart pumping. It rejuvenates and energises you. It resets your mind. It helps you to sleep better. Just some of the ways in which exercise is good for your physical and mental health.
This Mental Health Awareness Week (13 to 19 May), we'll be sharing people’s stories, exploring barriers to exercise, offering tips to get you started, and extoling the virtues of movement in all its shapes and forms. There will be new content on our website throughout the week and please follow our campaign on our social media channels (Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn).
At West Sussex Mind, we'll be running activities to encourage physical activity for people who get support with us, raising awareness about our services and letting people know that we are here to support their well-being.
From mindful walks and table tennis, to seated yoga and mindful movement sessions, we’re running special activities throughout the week – and we’re encouraging our staff to “move more, sit less” too!
We’re using the hashtag #MoveResetRepeat, highlighting the ability of physical activity to reset your mind and distract you from difficult thoughts if you're feeling anxious or overwhelmed.
Wear It Blue for us!
We're also using Mental Health Awareness Week as an opportunity to raise funds for our important work. We've been asking businesses, schools and colleges to Wear It Blue for us – to wear blue clothes and accessories, run blue-themed fundraising events (think bake sales and quizzes) and donate to us during Mental Health Awareness Week.
