When you sign up for LivingWorks Start training, you'll learn a powerful four-step model to keep someone safe from suicide, and you'll have a chance to practice it with impactful simulations.
Safety resources and support are available throughout the program.
What will I learn?
Participants will become ready and confident to identify indicators of suicide thoughts, ask about suicide, state that suicide thoughts are serious, and make connections to helping resources.
You will deepen your helping skills, along with gaining increased confidence and readiness for helping individuals with suicide thoughts.
What is the course like?
Based on best practices in online curriculum development, LivingWorks Start is designed in a modular fashion, following a “teach” – “simulation” – “debrief” approach to teaching and reinforcing each key skill. This allows learners to increase their skills and knowledge at a comfortable pace, as well as balance their personal safety with the challenging content.
A range of teaching methods are built into the programme, including:
- Narrated coaching
- Allowing learners to hear the lived experience of someone with thoughts of suicide
- Text message simulations
- Video simulations
- Practice scenarios (video simulations and text message simulations).
The course takes approximately 60 minutes to complete. You can save your progress any time and complete the course later.
Please note you must complete the course within 60 days.
How LivingWorks Start can help you:
- Become more comfortable talking about suicide
- Keep a loved one safe in times of distress
- Support friends and co-workers
